Sniper 2038 by IzzyMedrano Sniper 2038 by IzzyMedrano
I wanted to do more quick normal human character designs. I decided to do a 'space marine' (as I've never done one) but instead of a snarling hulking badass, more of a soldier from WW2, a young kid that maybe tricked the draft, and is now realizing he may have made the wrong decision.

Tech wise, I decided to try to figure out how gear would change for a Sniper in the future. I gave him this massive gyroscopic stabilizing sleeve for his holding hand. And his legs are mounted with a sort of muscle enhancement/ shock absorbing system. They are working on that technology right now, so I just sexied it up a little. I think it'd be cool if they still wore ghillie suits in the future though!

Excellent work on his armor, and his face is perfect: uncertain, a bit shell-shocked, almost looks like he's about to cry. Subtle lighting!

nice concept. not so sure a sniper would wear so much armor though.

Oh, look at these details on the suit !
The concept looks much of a soldier or someone who's not stealthy . Maybe youre right about ghillie suits or anything refers to camo . He's a sniper as everyone already knows .

In the future, everyone gets high-tech equipment that looks like power armour.

It's cool, but the armor looks rather heavy for a sniper. Perhaps this is just me, I mean it's still cool and all this is merely nit picking, but my father was a sniper in Vietnam and more than anything they needed to be able to get around quickly and silently. This armor seems more suited to a front lines fighter. That said, war has changed a great deal. Either way, cool painting dude.

Read through the comments. I've already addressed that. He takes out planes with a massive rifle. (made up future) Appreciate your pop's expertise tho.

Hard Core. So less of a stealth sniper, more of an anti-vehicle. Intriguing.

I can just feel the emotion coming from the young man, imagining what must be going through his mind as he's encased in all that armor. I like the concept that you've put someone of his stature in a metallic combat suit, instead of say, someone who looks like they could plow through a brick wall. Very nice!

Check out the other posts for my responses to this one. He shoots down planes, and I imagined tech to take care of any speculars.

your mini brush strokes are always so damn crafty and fun to look at tracing the lines around the piece. its always important to put every character design in its own world. Shove some dirt under their fingernails and givem a history, even for just a single piece. its the only way you can prove you're using your imagination at all times. personally, bigass pockets look cool on just about everything: reptiles, chainsaws, other pockets.

technology coolness aside... the human aspect of confusion and fatigue is immediately evident... and the painterly style is so perfectly modern rennaissance... I love this... reminds me of the ww2 fighter pilots photographed after a mission... all that is missing is the helmet being held against the hip by a tired arm/hand... but that's just me... cheers!

This is one of the best future soldier images I've seen; it's great to see someone actually putting a decent amount of thought into the design and the character himself. Great work!

Personally I think the ghillie suit will be enhanced. It will be like the thermoptic camo from ghost in the shell. I have already seen some clunky demos of it. It's really just a camera and projection system. But as optical sensors get smaller the projections onto nano fabrics will happen and you will get the invisible sniper. My thought is the sniper would have a camera system (multiple small cameras) that feeds via encrypted radio frequencies to a receiver in his gear, then projected onto the exteriors of his fabric (or body armor)....just a thought.

That's very technical jargon for invisibility cloak, which is EXACTLY what I was THINKING!!! YAY! You should tell that to all the guys complaining that his power armor is too clunky for a sniper. Hahaha

My only thought about an invisibility cloak and power armor is the following. If you knew the technology you could most likely develop frequency scanners and emp pulses which would disable the or scramble the camera systems. SO, as a sniper you would want a redundancy in the form of some sort of traditional camo, be it a suit or just coloration. As yours stands I would just aim for the speculars. :P
